The TD3200 Cooperative Summary of the Day (CSOD) data set contains daily minimum and maximum temperature and precipitation data, among other things, for a large number of stations. Daily minimum and maximum temperature and precipitation is used to calculate the maximum monthly phreatophyte ET. The mktd program extracts the minimum and maximum temperature and precipitation from the full data set for the following stations.

The TD3220 Cooperative Summary of the Month (CSOM) data set contains monthly summaries of precipitation and an annual total precipitation, among other things, for a large number of stations. The annual precipitation is used to calculate recharge from precipitation in the RRCA Groundwater Model. The mktd program extracts the precipitation records from the full data set for the following stations.

The program reads final and provisional TD3200 daily data from the file /pm/sys2/NCDC/CSOD/20xx.gz and /pm/sys2/NCDC/CSOD/20xy.gz, respectively. Final and provisional TD3220 monthly data are read from the files /pm/sys2/NCDC/CSOM/20xx.gz and /pm/sys2/NCDC/CSOM/20xy.gz, respectively. These files are a compressed concatenation of files found on the NCDC web site. The files are maintained and updated by Principia Mathematica. Due to their size, these files are not distributed through the RRCA web site, but are available by request.
The program produces a single TD3200 data file that contains both final and provisional data from the TD3200 data sets. Similarly, the program produces a single TD3220 data file.
The provisional data is intended to be used for preliminary runs with the model until the NCDC releases the final data. There is typically a delay of about 6 months before the final data sets for a month are available.
