Model Units
The RRCA Groundwater Model uses two basic sets of units.
- The units of length and time used in the MODFLOW-2000 model are feet and seconds. Therefore
rates are expressed in units of cubic feet per second (cfs).
- Whenever areas or volumes are specified, the volumes are in acre-feet and areas are in acres.
Precipitation and recharge rates are in inches per unit area.
Model Coordinates
The RRCA Groundwater Model can be located in the real world using a custom
projection. The horizontal datum used is the North American Datum of 1927
(NAD27).
Locations in latitude and longitude are projected using the UTM zone
14 projection. UTM coordinates in meters are converted to surveyors feet using
the conversion factor 1 meter equals 39.37 inches exactly. The south-west
corner of the model is located at 266023 ft east and 14092806 ft north.
Vertical data for the model was derived from the National Elevation Dataset
(NED). This dataset uses the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).
State Input Files
The input to the Republican River Pre-Processor (rrpp) program is a set of
cell by cell files for each state. These files specify the volumes and areas
of pumping, groundwater and surface water return flows, and canal leakage. All
values in these files are volumes in acre-feet for each cell for a particular
month. Another set of files specify the surface, groundwater and commingled
irrigated acreage. All values in these files are areas in acres per cell for a
particular year.
