The canal leakage data is prepared by Nebraska, but applies to the entire domain. However, except for a small section inside Kansas, all the canal leakage occurs in Nebraska.
During model calibration, canal leakage was provided separately for canals and laterals. The original purpose of the mknecanal program was to calculate the net recharge from canals and laterals. This function is now obsolete and the mknecanal program simply copies the canal leakage data.
The mknedat takes a year specified on the command line, and produces output for that year in the ne subdirectory.
The mknedat program reads the files applicable to the year specified on the command line and rewrites the cell by cell data for each month to files named ne/yyyy.mm.rcc, where yyyy is the year and mm is the month. For January to September, the months are 01 to 09, respectively.
If the canal leakage for a month over the entire domain is zero, no output file is produced.
